Chilton Medical Center in Morristown Offers World-Class Care

The Chilton Medical Center features state-of-the-art equipment and friendly, comfortable environments conducive to recovery. The hospital is on the forefront of medicine and continues to set high standards for quality health care in Morristown.

The Center is a top acute-care facility with 260 beds and about 1,350 employees. The Center offers world-class therapeutic and diagnostic equipment and the health care professionals based at Chilton provide cost-effective and advanced care for all patients.

The hospital was built in 1947. A tract of land was donated by Doctor Forrest S. Chilton II and his wife, Elizabeth, in memory of the son they lost in World War II. This sparked a drive to build a healthcare facility that would serve the needs of the local community. The hospital was completed in 1954 and offered 50 beds. By 1961 it had more than doubled to 119 beds.

In August 1968 another 40-acres was purchased just one mile west of where the hospital lay to add another building, the West Parkway facility. The building was completed in 1971 and in 1981 construction began to combine the two buildings into one facility. The old building underwent a complete makeover and the newer, bigger building included a new ground floor facility and new patient wing. In 1984 the facility was named the Chilton Memorial Hospital and in 2010 it was renamed Chilton Hospital. It merged with Atlantic Health System in 2014 to become Chilton Medical Center.
